Twenty-two-year-old Nick is a college senior and passionate surfer whose parents and girlfriend, Annie, expect him to follow a lucrative finance career.
His best friend, Ben, directs him to Woolly’s surf shop for a board repair where the quirky old surfer exposes Nick to Plato, Aristotle, and Epicurus. Woolly challenges him to explore the meaning of a good life.
Under Woolly's tutelage, Nick learns philosophy and how to make surfboards. He respects and admires the wise old man but everyone else distrusts him. Annie and his parents notice Nick is more interested in hanging out at the shop than finishing college and pursuing career plans.
As the pressure to graduate builds, Nick hides his friendship with Woolly but when his lies catch up with him, his relationship with Annie and his parents hits a breaking point.
Will Nick have the courage to live according to what he’s learned and risk destroying the bonds with those he loves? Or will he abandon what Woolly has taught him and resign himself to a career behind a desk and far from the surf?
